A few weeks ago Jack looked out the window and said-"Wow! There is a big spider walking on top of the grass."
My thoughts? That is sure a weird way to say you saw a spider, and it must be pretty big for it to be "walking on top of the grass."
Soon shrieks and squeals from the rest of the kids brought me to the window to indeed see a "big spider walking on top of the grass."
Luke was certain that it was a giant wolf spider, but I thought maybe a tarantella?
Whatever it was- it was HUGE! I have never seen a spider that big around my house.
We caught it and brought it home so that as soon as Jay got home he could check it out with our friend google.
What do you think it was?
I am in the mood for a little contest. So what do you think? What is your best guess?

Oh. my. goodness. You are a stronger woman than I! I would have loaded up the kids and evacuated! :) My guess would have been tarantula but I bet Luke was right! He seems to know all sorts of facts like these!
I don't know what it is, but we have a bunch of them around our house. A fact that I am not happy about.
Also, why is it in your house and since it is, why is it not swimming in alcohol? I would be having bad dreams.
I heard about this spider.... I can't believe how BIG it is! What did you do with it? Did you release it back into the wild?
My guess is that it is a type of tarantula.
I hope he was let out of the glass and back to his natural habitat.
Oh. My. Gosh. I really hate spiders.
I have to say that if my kids had brought me out to see this spider, I would have found the biggest heaviest thing around and dropped it on it...I COULD NOT allow that in my house. It seriously gives me the creeps just looking at the photos. Eeewwww.....
I can't look at it long enough to determine what type it is, it gives me heebie-jeebies!!!! Yikes!
This gives me the willies just looking at it. Ick. Ick. Ick. I wish I was braver.
Is it a tarantella? It is HUGE! I hope I don't see any around our house!
That looks like a wolf spider. We have them here in Kentucky. We call them spiders on steroids!!!!!!!!
Thanks Amber
Are you sure it's a spider..? Maybe it's a small rat.. HA it's huge! Maybe your local school would like it in the science room.. But I, like the rest of everyone, can't believe it isn't dead AND in your house.. NO WAY NO HOW - but good timing on the spider's part, just in time to be mounted on your front door for the trick-er-treat-ers... :)

I say it is an Oklahoma Brown tarantula. Here is a link and i think it looks a lot like it http://www.garden-city.org/zoo/animalinfo/Inverts/Tarantula.htm.
We had a beautiful Writing Spider in our garden this summer http://oklahomabreakdown.blogspot.com/2009/09/lots-of-food-for-thought.html
I'm going with tarantula! That's awesome! I used to see those crossing the street out in my parent's neighborhood when I was a kid.
Announcing the winner in just a few minutes! Thanks everyone for commenting!
Holy cow, I think I'm glad I missed this post entry originally .... I would probably have had nightmares and spoiled my entire Fall Break vacation. Yikes!!
sorry I missed the give away but I have to tell you I think I might have to move if I saw one of those in my yard!
