Playlist of my life- summer 2010?

I tweeted this earlier today.
I need help.

"I need a summer soundtrack-2009 was Wicked, 2008 was Mamma Mia.
Help me put together a playlist for this summer.
Go."

What are you listening to this summer? What will you remember as your soundtrack from Summer 2010?

Playlist of my life

I am listening to ...

Ice Cream- Sarah McLachlan

and I am ...

With Jay visiting Oklahoma during the summer, after just celebrating our 1 year anniversary. I was sitting in my Mom's kitchen and Jay was sculpting ... me. We packed up the unfinished sculpture, and took it on the plane back to Utah. It was all smooshed when we landed.

Playlist of my life-15 years ago-I remember

Edited to add link at bottom.

I pulled up Kristie's blog and looked at my clock.
9:02-
Remembering 15 years ago.

Playlist of my life:

15 years ago I heard the sound of Oklahoma's news stations interrupting the normal broadcast in Colorado Springs. How strange to hear them on TV in Colorado. Their little intro jingles and cutting away sounds being played in the wrong state.

I was in Colorado. I was living there. I was actually at Jay's parents house that morning. I had been snowed out of getting home the night before. I was the only one there, and I remember Jay's Mom opening the garage door.

I think about where I was when I heard. I remember the look on Jay's mom's face as she came in from her car in the garage saying I had to turn on the TV. I think about how far away I felt watching from the TV in Jay's parents family room. Watching the newscasters that were from home, on TV in Colorado. I think about how I had just been home visiting the weekend before, and I had just been downtown. I remember the busy signal on the phone, over and over again as I tried to call home. I remember going about my day in a daze and looking at everyone else going on with their lives. I remember pouring water for someone at a table that night at work thinking they had no idea what was going on just a few states away. I remember a few co-workers talking about it, and hearing them saying to go easy on Alisa tonight. I remember feeling sad, and strange, and confused. I didn't know anyone that was hurt, but I felt like I did. It was my home.

I remember the stories. I remember hearing others connections with those that were downtown that day. I remember the stories of those that didn't make it downtown that day. I remember the stories of those that knew someone in the building.

Just like I remember hearing about the Challenger explosion, the Columbine shootings, the events of 9-11, I remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard about the Oklahoma City bombing.

What do you remember?
Where were you?

Playlist of my life

I am listening to ...
and it reminds me of ...

Theme from Somewhere in Time- Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini

When I hear this (any version) I instantly think of the first time I heard it. I am sitting on a hotel bed in Utah during a family vacation- with a babysitter. We were watching the movie Somewhere in Time on TV- and I remember feeling bothered and at the same time intrigued that the sitter was crying during the movie. I loved the music then- haunting and soothing at the same time.

Weird- This song triggered a memory of me sitting outside a Smiths parking lot in Utah. I could not remember when this would have been so I had to go look up the year. -2000-
10 years ago!
Jack would have been under a year and Savanna would have been 2ish- was I listening to this song on the radio with them in the car? I think it would have had to have been on the radio because this was pre-ipod days. I was rockin with the kidlets!

Playlist of my life

I am listening to this song ...
and it reminds me of ...

"Send me an Angel"- by Real Life

Reminds me of how after a few dates, (one of them consisting of Taco Bell and driving out to Lake Arcadia in his jeep, and having it break down on the way home) I saw the guy at a 4th of July gathering. He was with a friend of his (that I knew too.) The guy got annoyed with me (after only a few dates) because I was talking to lifeguards too much. Right before the fireworks he walked me home and asked for the t-shirt (that he had just given to me) back and he called me a little not-so-nice-name. I remember being more bothered that he wanted the shirt back (because I did not have any clean laundry), than being bothered he called me a name. I gave the shirt back and never saw him again. The end.

This memory cracks me up and makes me shake my head and roll my eyes at the same time.

Welcome to our World by Amy Grant

Ironing and weeping. Filling my thoughts with the love of our Savior and how his birth and death affects my life. How even he came to this earth life through birth and left through death.

Playlist of my life

I am listening to: Natalie Merchant- Tigerlily
and it reminds me of:

1995- 1st semester with Jay at BYU- remembering how much I disliked living in UT at first- but loved being married to Jay- Being so close to the mountains, experiencing fall in Utah and how early it snowed. Our 1st apartment off of 900 East just south of Center. (the old old building with the fiery furnace, large store front style windows and see through bathroom window, and mushrooms growing out of the carpet)

Replay of this playlist!

So glad that we now have memories of Tucker to add to Bear in the Big Blue House. It is so funny when he says it "Bear Boo House"- and he looks so similar to Jack when he was this age (except he is much bigger!) Listening to it while driving in the same van as when Jack was little (9 years and counting!)

Playlist of my life

I am listening to ... and it reminds me of ...

Heatmiser - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
(the original song was sung on the Christmas cartoon The Year Without A Santa Claus)

Tucker was 3 months old his first Christmas. We listened to this song from our Christmas play list almost every time we got in the car. The kids started making up their own words to it about Tucker.
So the song became Tuckmiser or "Tuckmister".
Fast forward to the Christmas of 2007 and the kids picked up right where they left off. And Tuck would nod along and smile.
Fast forward 1 more year to Christmas 2008. Now Tuck is really into it. And now its HIS song. Its the end of March and he still demands to listen to it after we drop the kids off at school. He insists on listening to "my song." So I put it on and he nods and smiles along.

Playlist of my life-Singing with angels

I get to drive the kids to school every morning. I get to share the final moments before they start the day. Almost always we are listening to music. I take requests, but I try and put something on that will be positive. Often this last song that they hear as they get out of the car is what they are humming for the rest of the day. As they come home and are unloading lunch boxes and backpacks, they are singing bits and pieces of that song.

This Christmas I found a new song that I love. While listening to pandora radio (James Taylor holiday) this song would come on and I would race to the computer to listen, and sing along. It made my heart soar, and fill me with love. Finally after four days of this, and only being able to hear the song twice a day, and then only if I happened to be in the room (several times I would hear it just at the end of the song)- I got the idea to look it up and download the album for myself.
Every time I play this song I am moved. I love it. I can not say it strong enough. I Love It.

So we have listened to it often at home over the Christmas break. We know it. It has become a part of us. Yesterday as we drove to school it is what we listened to. The kids were humming it after school and Jack commented on how he likes it and he caught himself several times humming it during the day.
Once again I put it on this morning on the way to school. It felt like there were more than just our 4 kids singing along with me. As Savanna and I broke off into our own parts and I could hear the boys singing (yes, loudly -even Tucker) I felt so blessed to hear and sing with the angels.

"For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads" (D&C 25:12).

Playlist of my life

I will always connect these songs to the unifying time spent with my Mom, sisters Jennifer and Janelle and Nana as we sung around Nana's bed and held her hands. Some of our singing was silly and a little irreverent, and some were sung beautifully. These were some of the songs from Nana's book, and some that I remember her singing. This night was as much for her as it was for us girls with our mothers.

playlist of my life

I am listening to and it reminds me of:

The theme song of THE OFFICE- the year Tucker was born, and how he would bounce to the rhythm of the beat while nursing. We chuckled that when he heard the song, that it would trigger him to think it was time to nurse.
